ART
Art helps children develop observation and interpretation skills as well as cognitive and creative thinking skills. Practicing art has been proven to have a direct influence on literacy and overall brain development especially in early childhood education.
Examples: Sensory Games, Creating, Drawing, Painting, Fashion Show
LANGUAGE/ LITERACY
Language and literacy build the foundation of effective communication skills and positive social development. Developing these skills supports your child’s ability to communicate with peers and adults and to effectively express and understand feelings and social situations.
Examples: Circle Time, Library Center, Environmental Print, Reading Books, Talking and Laughing with Each Other
MUSIC & MOVEMENT
Music and movement, especially in early childhood, helps improve memory, perception, attention, physical awareness, decision-making, cognitive development, and concentration. We have partnered with The Lutherville Rock School to provide hands-on music lessons led by musical professionals.
Examples: Drums, Dance Parties, Ukulele, Concerts, Music Education, Fashion Show, Song Time, Circle Time
FINE MOTOR SKILLS
Fine motor skills builds confidence in preschoolers by giving them the ability to accomplish self-care and every day tasks independently. Practicing fine motor tasks help develop communication skills and build hand-eye coordination.
Examples: Playdoh, Legos, Manipulatives, Pre-writing, Clapping, Putting on Shoes, Shaking Instruments, Stringing Beads
GROSS MOTOR SKILLS
Gross motor skills impact the ability to control whole-body movements and fine motor skills. Building coordination helps a child gain strength and confidence in their body.
Examples: Dance Parties, Crawling, Walking, Hopping, Action Songs, Pretend Play, Chasing Bubbles
SOCIAL / EMOTIONAL
Social/emotional skills assist children in building healthy relationships with family, peers, and adults and enable them to understand and manage their emotions.
Examples: Singing/Signing with Peers at Center Time, Self-Soothing, Self-Help Tasks, Calm Down Clouds, Red and Green Choices Charts
COGNITIVE
Cognitive development impacts a child’s ability to think, understand, communicate, remember, and imagine. Developing cognitive skills helps the brain’s core functions such as retaining information and paying attention.
